Petra steps out into what could only be described as an perfect scene. On one side is a wide valley, most likely carved by a glacier in some distant past, the other stretches down to an ocean without a hint of pollution marring the perfect blue green water. The sky is a slightly different shade of blue, but dotted with familiar white clouds.

Petra Arkanian steps out into this scene, looking upwards at the sky then around to the view.

Bonzo steps out right behind her, and pulls the door shut.

"I don't think there's another human being for ten thousand miles. Unless I'm misremembering, we've got the whole continent to ourselves."

"When I said, I, wow." Petra seems to be at a very large loss for words. Places like this were unheard of back on Earth. There were people or evidence of people... everywhere.

"Beauty of that wish...I can pick just about any place to go. And you wanted someplace quiet." Pause. "Can't do much better than this, Petra."

"Aye." A cool breeze touches Petra's skin, and she folds her arms against the cold. Cold brought memories that she would rather leave quite undisturbed. The motion dispels the chill.

"It is beautiful Bonzo."

There's a long moment of silence as he looks out over the miles and miles of...nothing.

"So...I brought some sandwiches and drinks along. Traditional picnic stuff, or so I'm told."

Bonzo's comment causes Petra to laugh and she turns towards him. "Have you ever had a real picnic?"

Bonzo laughs. "Not that I can remember. Something about a lack of space in the mess hall."

"Something like that. How does this work?"

"I...assume we sit down on the cloth there and eat our food?"

Petra raises an eyebrow at this. But she sits her bag down gently but puts the coat in her lap once she has sat herself down. Despite Bonzo's reassurances that there is not a creature within miles, when she sits it is in a position which she can rise quickly from. The bag remains close at hand.

"You realize how messed up our lives have been that we have never actually participated in a picnic?"

"No, I thought growing up in space and then getting thrown into a bunch of wars was normal."

Bonzo smiles back.

"I know...but it could have been a lot worse, you know?"

"Sometimes I wonder if it really could have been. I mean, without the bar where would we be?" Petra cuts herself off. The natural extension of that was, we'll you would be dead, but what about me?

"I dunno? Stuck in a relationship with Dink Meeker?"

Petra blinks, at least twice, then frowns.

"I do not know the last time I thought about Dink Meekeer." Her voice is flat, emotionless.

Pause.

"Neither do I. Or...many of the others." Pause. "Bean also comes to mind..."

Annoying little twerp that he was...

"What did you ever care about any of them anyways?" This line of questioning seems to have hit a nerve with Petra, one that she didn't even know existed. Which irritates her even more.

"I dunno. People I grew up with. We grew up with. So many people..." Pause. "If not for the Bar, I don't think there would be anyone outside of us who understood us. I know I don't know what it's like to be normal."

"I am not sure that I ever had a chance to 'grow up'. It was adulthood from the moment I got onto that shuttle. You want to know what is even more messed up?"

A piece of bread in her hands is slowly being demolished as she speaks.

"What?" Bonzo notices the disintegrating bread.

"Life would have been so much worse if all the shiz of the past had not happened."

"What do you mean?"

"Can you imagine standing by helpless while the buggers attacked?"

Wince. "No, I couldn't."

Pause.

"It just kills me that I had to be the bad guy for it all."
